The past has accumulated more weight in your inner life than the present can comfortably bear — and the reversed VI of Cups asks you to examine honestly the difference between drawing from what was good and using what was good as a way to avoid what is now. Memory curates, and the version of the past that lives in nostalgia has usually been edited into something more luminous than the original ever was; when the present is measured against that edited version, it will consistently fall short by a margin that cannot be closed through any improvement in present circumstances. This card is not asking you to stop valuing your history or the people who are part of it. It is asking whether the backward gaze has become so habitual that the present — with its actual, available, less-than-perfect gifts — is passing consistently unnoticed. The past is a source. It is a poor place to live.
